About Honey Monsters
Honey Monsters is a private English-speaking immersion Kindergarten. It has been owned by the parents' association since 1993. The Kindergarten has two locations in Espoo: Keski-Espoo and Olari. The first language of the children is Finnish. The children are 3-7-years old, and there are currently 70 of them.
Honey Monsters Kindergarten uses language immersion (Early Total Immersion). The method is suitable for all. The only criterion is that the child's first language skills are on the normal level of his/her age groups' language skills.
Language Immersion
Language immersion (Early Total Immersion) originated in Canada in the late 1960s. It is a language teaching method that aims for bilingualism by using the new language. The Honey Monsters staff always speaks in English when they talk to the children. The staff is expected to understand Finnish, which the children are allowed to use.
Teachers use facial expressions, gestures and picture cards to aid communication. The normal daily routines of the kindergarten, such as songs, rhymes, stories, plays and practical situations, make the environment suitable for language acquisition. Children are allowed to use Finnish, but they are encouraged to increase their use of English when they communicate with our teachers.

Short-term Substitutes
We are always happy to add new names to our substitute list. Substituting at Honey Monsters is an excellent opportunity, especially for students of early childhood education, to gain hands-on experience in a unique immersion environment.
What we expect from substitutes:
- You understand Finnish (children speak Finnish)
- You speak good English (all teaching is in English)
- You are responsible and reliable
- You enjoy working with children aged 2–7
- You get along well with people
A criminal record check for working with children is required before starting. Please contact Kindergarten Director Iivi Kurki to arrange a meeting and orientation.
Longer-term Employment
From time to time we seek qualified Kindergarten Teachers (varhaiskasvatuksen opettaja) or Assistant Teachers / Nursery Nurses (lastenhoitaja). In Finland, ECEC staff must have formal qualifications as defined by the Early Childhood Education Act.
We especially value experience with language immersion pedagogy and familiarity with the Finnish early childhood education curriculum (Varhaiskasvatussuunnitelma). Knowledge of both English and Finnish is essential.

Lyhytaikaiset sijaisuudet
Edellytämme sinulta, että vähintäänkin ymmärrät suomea, puhut hyvää englantia, olet vastuuntuntoinen, tulet ihmisten kanssa hyvin toimeen ja nautit lasten kanssa työskentelystä.
Ota päiväkodin johtaja Iivi Kurkeen yhteyttä ja sovi tapaaminen. Vietä kanssamme ensin aamupäivä seuraten toimintaa ja perehtyen tarvittaviin dokumentteihin. Rikosrekisteriote lasten kanssa työskentelyyn vaaditaan myös lyhytaikaisilta sijaisilta.
Pidempiaikaiset työsuhteet
Toisinaan meille etsitään varhaiskasvatuksenopettajia tai lastenhoitajia esim. äitiysloman sijaisuuteen. Kannattaa soittaa ja tiedustella tilannetta.
